I am so thankful to my mother, Catherine Rohaly, and my Aunt, Linda Smith, for their support and for always believing in me. I have battled with Lupus and kidney disease for nearly 20 years and by age 28 was on dialysis, a 3rd round of chemotherapy, and needed a kidney transplant. On May 20, 2009 my Mom donated her kidney to me but unfortunately due to complications involving Lupus and a clotting disorder the kidney failed less than 24 hours after surgery. I remained on dialysis and spent the next year recuperating from multiple surgeries and regaining my mental and physical strength. I am so lucky to have such a wonderful and large, not to mention, tissue compatible family. One year later on May 21, 2010 my Aunt Linda was able to donate her kidney and the surgery was a success. I have been able to stay off dialysis and get back to my very healthy and active life style. I have been a Personal Trainer for over 20 years, I was a FireFighter EMT for San Diego County Fire Authority, and am currently an EMT and Fire Science Instructor at Southwestern College in
San Diego. My Mom and Aunt have given me the ability to live an amazing life.
I am so grateful to them, my family, friends, doctors, and to all the people who have selflessly donated organs so that others may live. To honor my donors and donors everywhere, 3% of our profits are given to Donate Life. (www.donatelife.net)
